Minneapolis is at it again. This time, the city’s Democrat mayor, Jacob Frey, seems to believe the future of American business lies not in the hardworking, taxpaying citizens who built the nation, but in a wave of Somali migrants. According to Frey, the next generation of CEOs will come straight out of Minneapolis’s Somali community, as if American-born kids don’t have dreams and ambitions of their own.
It’s another classic page from the liberal playbook: prop up one group in the name of “diversity” while ignoring the struggles of everyday Americans. Mayor Frey wants everyone to believe that criticism of Somali migrants isn’t about crime or assimilation, but rather jealousy—because non-immigrants apparently just can’t stand to see new businesses thrive. Give me a break. Minnesotans aren’t blind. They see the rise in crime, the unmanageable cultural shifts, and the strain on schools and neighborhoods.
The left loves to champion globalism and open borders, always telling us America needs to be “transformed.” But what happens to American kids—black, white, Hispanic—growing up in Minneapolis? Are their futures any less valuable, just because radical politicians want to make headlines with their latest pet project?
Mayor Frey’s vision isn’t about jobs or opportunity for all. It’s about pandering to special interests and collecting brownie points from globalist elites. He ignores the real issues facing Minneapolis, like rising crime and decaying infrastructure, and instead brags about supposed entrepreneurial dreams. While he sings the praises of newcomers, local small businesses are shuttering, and families are moving out, searching for leaders willing to fight for them.
Is this what American leadership looks like now—cheering for the next “CEO class” while Main Street falls apart? Maybe it’s time someone reminded our liberal mayors they’re supposed to serve the people who were here first.
