The latest move by New York City’s mayor and City Council to ditch horse-drawn carriages screams of liberal lunacy. This is what happens when left-wing activists run the show — centuries of tradition kicked to the curb by smug politicians who think they know best. No one asked New Yorkers if they wanted their city stripped of one more special thing. These folks never do. Once again, the elites show more concern for woke hashtags and vegan Instagrammers than for actual people who live and work here.
Of course, globalist interests cheer as another piece of classic Americana gets the boot. Central Park’s horse-drawn carriages are a world-famous icon, loved by families, tourists, and even working-class New Yorkers who make their living caring for these magnificent animals. Now, the livelihoods of hardworking carriage drivers are on the chopping block, sacrificed for a headline and a pat on the back from their activist buddies. Do progressive leaders ever stop to think about who pays the price for their reckless experiments? Never.
Let’s get real: These horses are not being “rescued” from forced labor. They are healthy, well cared for, and treated with more dignity than most city bureaucrats deserve. The left’s so-called compassion is just another excuse to wipe away tradition and jobs in the name of animal rights—until, of course, those same officials happily vote for policies that make the city unlivable for humans and animals alike.
The hypocrisy runs deep. The same politicians who claim to stand for “equity” ignore the blue-collar families who will bear the cost. They would rather pander to out-of-town activists—and line up for photo ops with animal rights groups—than face real issues like crime, homelessness, and a crumbling subway. But hey, at least there won’t be horses “suffering” in Central Park anymore, right?
Ask yourself: Is this really the future we want? Fragile, empty cities where history is tossed aside and working people are told to find some other way to feed their families? Liberals may pat themselves on the back, but New Yorkers know the truth—this isn’t progress. It’s one more reason why ordinary Americans are sick of being ruled by incompetent ideologues who hate their own country’s traditions.
