Putin finally caves as Russia frees US hostage but is Biden too weak to stop the next crisis

Vladimir Putin has finally blinked—sort of. After years of brutal war, America’s enemies have shown us time and again that they don’t care about innocent lives. But this week, the Kremlin took one tiny step back from the cliff. Russian forces let go of Stephen Hubbard, a 70-year-old American citizen they snatched during their unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.

This move doesn’t erase the pain and fear Moscow has unleashed on the world. Still, it’s a minor, unexpected hint that Putin might—just might—feel some pressure to clean up his act. Let’s not kid ourselves, though. This is not a victory lap for “peace talks.” This is not a grand gesture by a remorseful leader. This is Putin, cornered and desperate for leverage. He realized keeping elderly Americans as hostages only makes him look more like a coward on the world stage.

Liberals love to talk about “diplomatic solutions,” yet where were their supposed experts while a senior citizen languished in Russian captivity? The truth is, weak leadership and soft negotiations got us here. The left cozying up to global elites only made tyrants like Putin bolder. The world doesn’t respect appeasement. It respects strength.

The Biden administration won’t say it, but Putin’s move is not about goodwill. It’s a PR game, a classic dictator distraction. At least Stephen Hubbard is finally free. But let’s face facts: this wouldn’t even be a headline if America’s leaders hadn’t let Putin run wild in the first place. Under stronger conservative policies, Putin would have thought twice before ever taking an American hostage.

Every time Putin or any two-bit dictator pulls this stunt, the world watches how the United States reacts. Will the left keep playing nice and pretending evil men can be reasoned with? Or will America finally stand up and make tyrants think twice? When American lives are on the line, asking for hope isn’t good enough—it’s time for real action.
